Week 12
In preparation for the semester one submission, I revisited my previous material to meet the package guidelines. I added to my design document by continuing the new influences and styles that helped me with my new idea. I explained the idea behind my decision to switch my concept in the document too. I went deeper into the thought behind my design choices in terms of colour palettes, sound, shapes, and overall visuals. I then finalised my script by tweaking the format so that it was more widely understood by anyone who read it. This included adding more 'stage directions' or visuals / shot ideas so that the overall film could be visualised easier.
I also created 5 turntable renders of the scenes and characters I had created in Blender for my assets video. I also added my time-lapse. A Lot of my time this week was spent rendering different lighting setups, animations, and playblasts for the assignment.
Additionally, I also worked on one of the live action VFX shots in the film. This was one of the simpler shots as the models don't interact with any live action characters or objects. The scene involves the hand from the ‘cartoon’ reaching out through the live action tv towards the main character. This is a very short clip but I would still like the visuals to be realistic. I utilised gaussian blur in after effects to match the depth of field in the original shot. I also coloured the world to match the live action scene. I then added a green light in blender to match the effects I implemented in after effects such as the portal. Overall, I am happy with the result and aim to further improve by colour grading each layer in Nuke. The scene could also benefit from a reshoot with live action green lights illuminating the room to replicate the portals light. This will make the CGI appear more natural and realistic.
