Sem 2 week 2

With the timetable chart in place, I began steadily working through the production pipeline. Although most of my assets and scenes had been modelled in semester one, there were a few things I needed to model and texture before I could begin the rigging process. from my rough cut, one of the main things I took away was that the creatures featured at the end could be shown throughout to establish a connection to the Mikey character. The hand that escapes the animation into live action at the end is also a bit random and has no real connection to the story. To remedy this, I thought of adding a main antagonist that appears throughout the short to make the ending more impactful. In the end I chose to use the clown character I had modelled in semester one:

This design appears child-friendly but can also be interpreted as creepy as he is not smiling. I chose the clown as the main antagonist rather than the monster creature as the clown would not reveal the eerie tone immediately whereas a monster would signify something evil to audiences.

Because of this change, I had to reconsider where in the story I could place the clown character. I considered hiding him throughout the beginning scenes as if he is stalking Mikey and for viewers to find on their own. However, this would mean the story still has no main antagonist and he never interacts with Mikey until the end. I came to the conclusion that the clown would have to meet Mikey at some point in the story and cause conflict that would lead to him breaking out of the screen at the end. Because of this, I decided to spend this week revisiting the script to see where I can incorporate these new conceptualised scenes.

Here is the new script I created:

Narrator:

  Welcome back to Mikey's world

Today, Mikey is a the farm!

What kind of animal is mikey looking at?

Thats right, the sheep!

Do you know what noise the sheep makes?

Thats Right! Well done!

POP

I wonder what that noise was

It’s Mr Clown! And hes with all his friends!

Do you want to play with mr clown, mikey?

Mr clown is sad! Are you sure you dont want to play Mikey?

Mr clown is angry

The sun is setting in Mikey's world, better hurry back home Mikey

From here, the scene I have already developed would play out, with some additional changes to Incorporate the return of the clown character.

I think mikey is afraid of the dark…

Sometimes our imaginations are too powerful for our own good,

However, we can always urn on a nightlight.

See isnt that better?

Oh look, Mr clown found you!

I think he wants to play!

Do you want to let mr clown in to play?

Oh mikey, youve made mr clown very angry

Maybe a game of hide and seek will help!

Get ready mikey!

I wonder where mr clown and his friends will come from?

The front door?

The open window?

Perhaps theyll come down from the ceiling,

Of course mikey could just let mr clown and his friends in…

Do you want to let them in mikey?

although this revision of the script and story has forced me to allocate time to other tasks differently, I think it will pay off in the end when my story is stronger and a more effective horror.
