Sem 2 Week 1

The first week in semester 2 was spent organising the remaining tasks and allocating sufficient time throughout the remaining 12 weeks of the project.

I colour coded it the column on the left to represent to respective coloured task below. The pink squares represent the time allocated to each task over 12 weeks. Here's a further explanation on the justification for each time period allocated:

Modelling - I will model the realistic hand seen in my rough cut. I will do this in blender over the course of

week 2. The hand will be creature-like, appearing withered and deteriorated. I believe I have enough

experience in blender now to be able to accomplish this quickly whilst maintaining a high quality model.

Rigging- I will need more time to rig than I do for modelling as it can be a complex process between

different models. As I am not too familiar with the rigging process, I will need time for trial and error as

well as asking lecturers for assistance.

Mocap Recording- I have done mocap recording throughout my three years at AUT and feel quite confident

I can record the necessary data in one session. I have allocated two days for this as I may need to

produce a quick shot list so I am more efficient in the session. I will also need to contact AUT staff to

arrange a booking time.

Mocap Clean-up & Processing- Again, I believe I have the required experience to be able to use cortex and Motion Builder efficiently.

I have allocated more time to this task as I will also need to apply the data to the rig I will make, which may

cause some problems.

Simulations- I have used Houdini a few times and am confident I will be able to create a simple glass break simulation

for my film. However, I will need more time to create a realistic electric spark simulation as I may need to

research or ask for help from a lecturer. I will also need time to render out tests and the final outcome for

each simulation.

Compositing- This process should be fairly straightforward as I have used nuke to merge CGI elements with live

action footage in previous assignments. I have still allocated over a week for this task as I may need to

seek assistance once again if I encounter any issues.

Rendering- Rendering all my Blender, Maya and Houdini scenes on my personal PC will definitely take a long time.

I may use render farms at AUT to be more efficient.

Editing- Using DaVinci Resolve for my final edit may take some time. Although my rough cut can be used for

reference in terms of timing and audio cues, I intend to use new audio and sequences. This means I may have

to start from a new Resolve file.

Modelling - If i match my estimated times for each task, I will have the last week to make any last minute changes for submission and premiere night. This last week also allows for leniency in my timeline if any task ends up using up more time than expected.

If all goes well, my blog should reflect the above schedule.
